SAP
'Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing' or as it is in the original German 'Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung'. Many people talk about the largest ERP software vendor without knowing that it is an acronym and what it actually stands for.
 
From 1972 to 1977, SAP stood for 'Systemanalyse und Programmerentwicklung' (Thanks to Rabbe Storgards).

Supply Chain Event Management - applications providing inventory visibility, product availability and order status across a corporate supply chain (SSA (was EXE, was AllPoints) 'Glass Pipeline' product is an example).
 
SCI
Supply Chain Integration - back-end integration but with greater emphasis on B2B integration and moving goods and services.
 
SCIV
Supply Chain Inventory Visibility - Track and trace systems (i.e. FedEx), event driven, prioritizes and re-routes.
 
SCM
Supply Chain Management - umbrella term for most ERP and SCP / APS products. Theoretically supply chain issues can be seen as a subset of logistics issues.

SCOR
Supply Chain Operations Reference Model. This is the model developed by the Supply Chain Council SCC and is built around four major processes: plan, source, make and deliver. The aim of the SCOR is to provide a standardised method of measuring supply chain performance and to use a common set of metrics to benchmark against other organizations. PRTM, a founding member of the SCC, actually does the research to come up with industry supply chain best practice metrics.
 
SCP
Supply Chain Planning - optimizing the supply chain - products like i2, Manugistics, Logility and SAP's Advanced Planning and Optimizing (APO) module. These are the kinds of products that can use TOC (Theory Of Constraints) and mixed integer linear programming techniques to simultaneously optimize materials and constraints.  Advanced Available To Promise (ATP) and Capable To Promise (CTP) functionality is usually found within these packages.
 
SCPM
Supply Chain Performance Management - allows companies to identify, understand, act and validate supply chain decisions before those decisions can adversely affect overall corporate performance. Products by companies such as SeeCommerce are active in this area.
